Parents
Welcome to Rinksters, Parents!
We hope this page will help you understand how the world of Rinksters works. We encourage you to create your own account and personalized avatar to learn about Rinksters and share in the fun. Be careful! We've found that many parents quickly get hooked on the game and want to master the special skills that will make them Pro Members in no time. Although we're aware that some of our special moves, including "Shoot the Duck" and "Pirouette," are not exactly hockey-related, we've found that figure skating moves and hockey animations go hand-in-hand, appealing to boys and girls alike! Enjoy learning all the moves and remember that life-long learning, sportsmanship, and an active lifestyle are three of the core components of Rinksters!
Safety
Many of us at Rinksters are parents and know the importance of keeping all kids safe on and off the ice! This is why we follow COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) Compliance, www.coppa.org, and take every effort to ensure your child's safety.
Buddies, Chat and Parties
Kids love to visit and play with their friends. We offer restricted social networking features in Rinksters. Once your child registers, we send the parent/guardian an email asking for consent. Upon account activation, your child will be able to invite friends onto his or her buddy list and communicate in a limited fashion via our approved list of words, called a "White List." After painstaking review, our list was approved with the intent of keeping your children safe. Messages between kids are reviewed and filtered by our professional community team. We also have player reporting mechanisms throughout the game, including our always-present Moderator button located in the right hand corner of the screen. All Rinksters users can report unwanted communication, actions and behavior for immediate Moderator review. Blog posts and forum chat also go through an approval process that includes pre- and post-moderation. To learn more about the type of information we collect on our site, please read our Privacy Policy.
To become Buddies on Rinksters, kids need to know their friends' screen names. Using that information, your child can then use the "Find My Friends" feature to send that person an invitation to join his or her Rinksters network. When requesting a friend, they cannot identify themselves by first name, ensuring a safer experience for all Rinksters. It is up to the recipient of a message to decide whether or not to accept that invitation to connect. Once an invitation is accepted, buddies can write limited messages via our White List to one another. Children have several options to find new friends in Rinksters. They may know a friend's screen name before coming to Rinksters, or they may see a familiar screen name while skating through our virtual world.
In addition, if permission is granted, your child will have the exciting opportunity to be featured in the Community section of the site! The winning Rinkster will be featured on our site, where we will list your child's screen name and avatar image! Rest assured Rinksters will never share personal information with anyone in the game, including your child's buddy list members. The only information that buddies will have access to is your child's screen name and avatar. We encourage you to talk to your child about safe online practices.
Your child's profile - viewable by their friends and those who have obtained their screen name - will include information about your child's avatar and their trading card. If you ever have issues with your child's account or want to review, change or delete the information your child has submitted to the site, please contact our Customer Service department by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. For additional security and privacy reasons, it is important to use the email address assigned to the account to confirm the identity of the parent or guardian.
Keeping Your Children Safe
As with any online activity, we encourage parents to stay involved and engaged with their children. We constantly remind players to stay safe while playing Rinksters. Keep in mind that our White List will not allow players to give out personal information, such as your child's name or where they attend school. We encourage you to share the following Internet safety rules with your children:
• Never give out your personal information online. Personal information includes things like your real name, address, phone number, e-mail or school.
• If you ever run into any trouble on Rinksters, tell us immediately by clicking the Moderator button located on the bottom right hand corner on every page. Our moderators will review your message promptly and take action if necessary.
• Never share your password with anybody, including friends! Rinksters requests passwords only for log in. If you ever receive a message from someone saying they are from Rinksters, notify us immediately! Team Rinksters never requests that information and we will act accordingly to keep you safe. Remember, KEEP YOUR PASSWORD SECRET!
